Today’s full moon is the year’s closest supermoon.
Today’s full moon is the year’s closest supermoon. A supermoon is when a full moon or a new moon is coincident with the closest approach (called perigee) of the Moon to Earth. This full moon will be 14% closer and 30% brighter than other full moons of the year. Measured from the Earth’s and moon’s centers, the August 10 full moon lies 356,896 kilometers (221,675 miles) away.
